| This enormous neo-Norman 'castle' sits between Snowdonia and overlooks the Menai Strait. Built by Thomas Hopper between 1820 and 1845 for the wealthy Pennant family, who made their fortune from Jamaican sugar and Welsh slate. The 24.3 hectares (60 acres) of grounds include parkland, an extensive exotic tree and shrub collection and a Victorian walled garden. Penrhyn's magnificent setting on the North Wales coast is a perfect venue for our photography courses, providing us with wonderful landscapes, which include extensive woodland, gardens and parkland. The castle is a stunning subject for architecture photography and we will be running a workshop on how to photograph buildings and architectural detail later in 2008. | ![]() |
