DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS AT LONGSHAW ESTATE

Please read these instructions carefully!

TIMES:

The start and finish times for your workshop can be found on the appropriate workshop page of the website, e.g. Close-up.

DIRECTIONS:

If you're using the Sheffield ring road A61, follow signs towards Castleton, onto the A6187.  On the sharp right hand bend at the Fox house Inn corner turn left then in about 100m turn right again into the car park.

From Dronfield to Owler Bar, or Totley to Owler Bar, take the B6054 signed to Hathersage and Castleton, the NT Longshaw car park is on your left hand side just before the T junction at the Fox House Inn corner.

You need to turn to face the vehicle entrance to the car park, with your back to the ticket machine and grassy slope. In the top left hand corner of the car park, a sandy path has been made, which takes you through a very pretty woodland area. Follow the path and it will take you around to the centre, with the beech hedge on your left and the road to your right hand side. At the fork in the path go left and the path will lead you right to the door.

Workshops are held in the Moorland Discovery Centre, which is signposted from the car park, down a short, steep path.

WHAT TO BRING ON PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS & PHOTO WALKS:

To get the most from your course, please note the following:

·         You will need your camera.  Ensure it has fresh/fully charged batteries and a spare battery is recommended.

·         You will need your fully-detailed camera instruction manual (it’s worth checking your manual – sometimes the printed one you receive only contains basic facts and there’s a fully detailed manual on the CD that came with the camera, in which case bring the CD too).

·         Memory card - it is essential that you start the day with an empty, preferably newly formatted, memory card.  This is to minimize downloading time to the computers, so that everyone has the opportunity to view their own photos.  We will use card readers to transfer your images to our computers, but in the event that we are not able to do this successfully, please bring your camera to computer data cable too.

·         For SLR users, please don’t set your camera to shoot RAW images, as they will make downloading too slow.  If you want to shoot RAW, please select RAW plus jpeg. (Sigma users - if you are not able to shoot jpeg, please notify us in advance of the workshop).

·         A camera bag is useful for protecting your camera and equipment when outdoors, and a transparent plastic bag and some sticky tape make a good, temporary waterproof cover for your camera and an umbrella will protect your equipment and you in wet weather.

·         Bring a tripod (full height) if you have one (essential for Low-Light & Fill-In Flash, Backlight & Fill-in Flash and Water and Movement workshops).

·         A notebook and pen/pencil will be needed.

·         Dress in warm, comfortable clothing for outdoor sessions. A waterproof/ windproof top will be useful.

·         Comfortable but strong footwear is advised for photographing outdoors.

·         A garden kneeler or similar for getting low for some photos.
