ONE OFF PHOTOGRAPHY EVENTS IN YORKSHIRE

In addition to our photography workshops we run a range of special events during the year, to coinside with what is happening in the region. So whether it is a sporting event or something seasonal of interest we will run a few photography days designed for those that are happy with the basics but wanting to learn how to photograph in certain situations.

CUCKOO HIDE. How often have you heard a cuckoo but have you ever seen one? These amazing birds are only with us for a few month before they migrate to Africa. This hide on the outskirts of York is one of the best in the country for photographing this elusive bird. The hides are 2 pop up tents seating 2 people each and the short walk to them can be quite wet and uneven. A 400 - 500mm lens is recommended to get the best from the session. The birds are only active early morning so we meet at 5.15am and generally all the action has finished by 7.30am.Why not follow up with the kingfisher hide which we would head to straight after this. Course Residential Workshops
Whitby landscapes and seascapes taking place over 2 days - Sunday 19th May - Monday 20th May. Whitby is known for many things such as being associated with Captain Cook and also Dracula but it is also one of only 2 places on the East coast where the sun is known to both rise and set into the North Sea. We will meet around midday on the Sunday for our first photography session, taking in the beauty of the coastal port of Whitby and the iconic Abbey as we will be shooting until sunset. We will then retire to our accommodation with the option of meeting up for an evening shoot with light trails and whatever else we might find. The following morning we will be up early to head for a location to hopefully get a sunrise (weather dependant). The exact location will be decided nearer the time. A one point we will be visiting the wreck of the Admiral Von Trump at low tide (see picture). The exact agenda will be flexible depending on weather and tide times but we will cover seascapes, landscapes, detail pictures, composition, slow shutter speeds and lots more, the workshop will finish around 3pm on Monday. I will be staying at Penny Hedge, Marston Inns, Whitby, which is reasonably priced and has car parking. Cost of the workshop does not include board and lodging so if you need accommodation please arrange your own and also ensure you have insurance coverage for the trip. I will also happily have a chat with anyone on the Sunday evening about their photography if you are staying at the same accommodation. MOTORSPORT PHOTOGRAPHY. Fine tune your action photography skills and perfect your panning with an action-packed day at Harewood Hillclimb. A must for any motorsports enthusiast Harewood Hillclimb offers fantastic vantage points with no fencing to block your shots. Cars vary from vintage classics to race cars and modified production cars, there is something to suit everyone. Each car races individually against the clock, with practice sessions in the morning and the races in the afternoon in addition, there is access to the paddock area. Course Water & its Moods
AYSGARTH FALLS - Arguably Yorkshire's most stunning waterfalls - we'll photograph the three-stepped waterfalls and by mind October the autumn leaves will only add to the stunning scenery, giving us lots of opportunities to take fantastic photos. We'll teach you how to freeze and blur the fast-moving water and you'll learn all about composition, exposure, using ND filters to create dramatic photographs. Filters are provided for you to use on the day. A tripod is essential and we have some available to borrow, please make a note on the booking form. To prepare you for the day we hold a Zoom Presentation a few days before (usually the Wednesday around 6.30pm). The Zoom session is recorded for those who can't make it and anyone who wants a refresher. We will then meet up at Aysgarth for the practical part of the workshop which will be about 3 and a half hours starting at 9am. Course Introduction to Landscape Photography
BOLTON ABBEY - Autumn will be in full swing which will make for some stunning photos around the Bolton Abbey estate. You'll learn all about composition, exposure and using graduated filters to create more dramatic landscape photography. Just outside Skipton, the landscape, Abbey and the famous stepping stones will give us lots of opportunities to create something really special. Filters are provided for you to use on the day. A tripod is essential and we have some available to borrow, please make a note on the booking form.
