Exhibition Raises 6000.00 GDP

1/1 STUDENT, PETER WATSON PUBLISHES FIRST BOOK

Congratulations to Peter Watson, one of my Glaswegian tutees, who has recently published his first collection of photographs. This is a joint project with Going Digital Scotland which raised over 6000.00 GDP for the Yorkhill Children's Foundation of which Peter is the chairman. In association with the University of Strathclyde, not only does the book look fantastic, but raised a few pennies for a great cause.

    Tutors

Tony of Going Digital Scotland (GDS) has many years experience in a wide range of photographic disciplines both as tutor and cameraman, initially as a young boy attending motor race meetings with his dad, using an archaic 126 cassette camera that he still owns today!!!

Having studied for over ten years at various art and technical colleges in London, he began working with Garry Castle (now MD of Modo Publishing) in a very successful Portrait studio in Essex that numbered many footballers, singers and TV personalities amonst its clientele.

This inevitably led to Wedding and Social Event commissions that honed their natural style and easy-going approach that is the hallmark of their images today.

Ultimately, their beautiful darkroom and handprinted work was replaced by the digital workflow for simple commercial reasons, but Tony feels strongly that such a strong background in film and print processing has proved invaluable as we all move into the digital age.

In 2002, Tony branched out and started travelling, initially to the USA and India, which eventually led to his work being exhibited in London and Paris... and four , one-man exhibitons in Edinburgh, having relocated in 2007.

In the meantime, he accepted an ongoing commission to document Amanda Swanwick's fabulous Boutique Hotel interiors in Paris, Seville and beyond, which appeared in many national newspapers and sunday supplememnts, and now on her new lifestle magazine www.amandamagazine.com.

This experience afforded Tony the opportunity to shoot Food, Fashion and BBC chefs as chief photographer on a top Asian Lifestyle magazine... which in turn, led to him working with Orchid Events (in St John's Wood, London) and with video film makers, Bloomsbury Film, on celebrity wedding shoots, for comedians, Ed Byrne, and Dara O Briain, and 'A' list jeweller, Lolarose, plus music industry moguls, TCB.

Now living in Edinburgh, Tony mainly shoots corporate portraits and weddings for the well-heeled lawyers and bankers of the capital and Glasgow, plus exclusive private parties for clients such as Intercell Biomedical, The Royal Yacht Britannia and Maximillion Events, employing the same discreet manner and camera skills learned on the job, over two decades.

It is this hands-on, no nonsense approach that allows Tony to communicate the secrets of better photography to students at Going Digital Scotland, in a friendly and 'non-jargony' way. By actually helping you, in one day, to take control of the camera, get off 'Auto', and see the results, for yourself!!

Currently, in addition to developing new workshops and venues around Scotland for Going Digital, he is working on website images as a consultant for a new Investment company in Scotland, Cornerstone, and a new exhibition with Marc Marnie, the renowned rock photographer.

Tony welcomes all interested beginners and enthusiastic photographers in Scotland to join him on a workshop to learn new creative skills and have a good old blether about photography. Feedback is always given to clients and their images will appear on Galleries on the Going Digital Scotland page to invite comments and further instruction. If anyone has a great venue in mind in their particular region of Scotland, then please feel free to call Tony for a chat, and remember that vouchers are now available as great presents for those about to buy a shiny new camera for xmas.

Look forward to meeting you all in 2011/12.

Tony has now been joined by Victoria Kimber who will be assisting with the Social Marketing, Networking and GDS Region website.
