An Introduction to Wedding Photography

Two-Day Workshop

If you would like to take professional-looking wedding shots of your friends or family, this two-day workshop will give you all the camera skills you need.

This workshop is designed for anyone considering photographing a wedding, who is already confidently shooting in Aperture priority (see 'Previous Experience' on the right of the page).  You will learn all the essential camera skills required on the day and this is a good foundation if you are contemplating taking your wedding photography further.

 You will learn how to:

  • plan and prepare for the event
  • take correctly exposed shots
  • photograph without flash in low lighting conditions, e.g. inside a church or registry office
  • use fill-in flash indoors and outdoors
  • take portrait shots of the bride and groom
  • take group portraits

Throughout both days you will have the opportunity to put theory into practice with practical exercises, and several opportunities to review your images as a group.

REVIEWS

Once again, thanks for a brilliantly constructive and educational two days.  I have already highly recommended the course to others. I hope to see you again soon.

Thanks again for such a useful and fun course last weekend.  I got so much out of it and I cant wait to shoot my first wedding. Its my step sister's wedding this weekend and I am going as a second shooter.  Richard Jones

I just wanted to thank you again for the Wedding Photography course last weekend – I really enjoyed it and learned a lot.  My CD of 20 photographs will be in the mail to you this morning.  Janice Haigh

Just to say how much Stephen and I enjoyed the course. It certainly opened my eyes as to how much I didn't know and how much we have to practice in different situations and conditions to try and get it right.  Anyway, I hope It's not too long before we cross paths again and if we get stuck on anything, we will contact you.

It was a really good weekend and very enjoyable, the models were great as well.  It was nice to be able to shoot in RAW and try it out.  I have spoken to a few people this week about your courses and how good they are, one being our accountant and the other a manager of a hotel that I am doing a shoot at next week, also my photography group all might be interested in the macro course coming out later in the year.  I told them that the handouts are very good, easy to use and the fact that most of the day is hands on, makes it so much easier to find out how to use the camera properly.  I have learnt more in the last few sessions with you than I have in the last 18 months.

Just a short note to say how much I enjoyed the wedding photography course last weekend. It was very informative at the same time as being good fun, and I am now very much enthused to get out there and photograph a real wedding!

What a great weekend! Thank you both for all the hard work and inspiration. I'm now getting to work on my presentation!

The course was absolutely excellent, I loved every minute of it.  In fact I could have had a whole week there.

Just to let you know how much I enjoyed the wedding course in Brighton at the weekend. Tish and Andy were great – nothing too much trouble. I have learnt so much about lighting – just what I wanted!

I attended the wedding course held in Brighton at the weekend.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The handouts and information given were so easy to follow and the whole weekend was busy, hands on and fun.  There is no pressure and Tish and Co are so helpful.

You may remember me as the crazy chap on the wedding course who had agreed to be the official photographer at his daughter's wedding in Cyprus. Well I said I would let you know how I got on.

The photos were very well received by all but more importantly by my daughter. I cannot deny that the duty added a little more "edge" to the day on my part but I do feel I saw more of her big day (preparation, getting ready etc) than I may have done normally.

Thanks for the tips on the  wedding course and the subsequent Photoshop course I attended with Rod.

Previous Experience

To get the most from this day, we recommend that you have attended our Explore Your DSLR/Compact System Camera Part 1 workshop (and the Explore Your DSLR/Compact System Camera Part 2 or Portraits Family & Friends workshops would be useful too), or be experienced in controlling depth of field in your photographs through the use of Aperture priority mode, and use of Exposure Compensation.

If in doubt, please contact your local tutor for advice.

Equipment

This workshop is suitable for any camera with a dedicated hot-shoe mounted flash (a flash unit which is compatible with your camera). If you don't have a hot-shoe mounted flash, we will show you how to get the best from your camera's built-in flash, although this may limit the range of shots you will be able to take.

To get the best out of this workshop you will require a tripod (full height).

Times

Most of our workshops run from 10am to 4pm, but please check your Joining Instructions for full details.

Progression

Our Wedding Photography Masterclass is a natural progress from this workshop.
