Course Portrait Photography - Natural Light & Location

NEW - EVENING CLASSES. This is an Introduction to Portrait Photography, which combines our Portraits with Natural Light and Portraits with Flash workshops. It's taught as an evening class over a period of four weeks and the dates for the course are 1, 8, 15 and 22 May and will take place at the studio in Nottingham. Teaching this over a four week period allows it to be done in smaller chunks, for you to absorb the information and go home, practice and identify any gaps in knowledge that we can address in the sessions. Each session will begin at 6.30pm, will be approximately two and a half hours long and there will be a maximum of four students on the course to ensure that everyone gets the time that they need. In addition to what's covered in our day long workshop, there will be extra practical sessions, homework if you choose to do it (!!) and a review session at the beginning of every evening. Course Introduction to Photography - Part 3 - Manual Mode & Composition
Nottingham Studio - Maximum of 4 Students. If you're looking to master the manual mode on your camera and develop your composition skills, then this is the workshop for you! This is a relaxed, day long workshop based at the Nottingham Studio, five minutes from the M1 and within walking distance of Wollaton Park. We banish jargon and explain in plain english how to use manual mode like a pro and take your photos from great to spectacular simply by deploying your secret weapon, which is composition. Mastering manual on your camera will allow you to shoot landscapes with filters, create landscapes with 'smooth water' or moving clouds, photograph fireworks, light trails and images at night. A strong command of composition will put you head and shoulders above the rest and will transform an ordinary image into something that you'd be proud to put on your wall. Read More
We use a mixture of theory and practical throughout the day to help you understand how, why and when to use manual mode use examples to help you understand the rules of composition. What will I learn:
Manual mode - we'll show you how to use manual mode to precisely control your camera and start to shoot much more creative imagery
Light - you'll learn how the camera 'sees' light, how it differs to what our eyes see and how to use it to your advantage
Focus - we look at how to focus in low light and when and how to use manual focus
Landscape skills - we'll explain how to create 'smooth' water, used graduated and Neutral Density filters and capture movement in clouds
Low light photography - you'll learn how to photograph fireworks, light trails, sparklers, create 'ghosts' and photograph in low light
Composition - we look at the rules of composition including how using light and colour can change a shot
Lenses - we explain how your lens choice can affect a photo and change the perspective

Deer and Nature Walks on Wollaton Park. Join us for a walk in the grounds of the stunning Wollaton Hall and Deer Park. The park is home to over 100 red and fallow deer who roam happy and free and often pop into the lake, providing opportunities for some incredible photography! The walk is during rutting season so there's also the chance to capture them fighting, bellowing and generally behaving badly. The walk begins at around 7.15am, to take advantage of the early morning light and we aim to finish at around 10.30am. There is no classroom time, just pure photography and the price includes a coffee/tea and a chat in the Courtyard Cafe at the end of the walk. Read More
