PHOTOGRAPHY COURSES IN LONDON
London Photowalks & Street and Travel Photography Worksops
SPECIAL CHRISTMAS WALKS FOR SEASONAL PHOTOGRAPHIC FUN!
There are TWO different Christmas PhotoWalks with out lovely Tutor Ingrid Abraham on offer this November and December! One is to photograph London's fantastic Christmas lights, and the other is to experience London's spectacular Christmas destination - Winter Wonderland! This huge Christmas funfair and market is set up in Hyde Park every year. Both offer an opportunity to learn how to photograph into the night to practice your low light photography skills and to capture our amazing city all dressed up in light.
LONDON'S CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
For the Christmas Lights PhotoWalk Ingrid will meet you at the at Costa Coffee, 62 Shaftesbury Avenue, on the corner of Wardour Street. After discussing the best settings for Christmas light photography you will move through all the best areas to photograph them with advice, feedback and support from Ingrid. For the first time in five years, the world famous Christmas lights have undergone a glittering transformation. The new £1.5m display will provide a dazzling show with three quarter of a million LED lights lighting up Oxford Street.
The new design is inspired by falling snow. The whole mile of Oxford Street will be covered in a blanket of bright white lights and 1778 baubles providing a perfect Christmas setting. For more information on London's Christmas Lights 2013 click HERE
This Christmas Light PhotoWalk will run from 6.30 to 9.30pm
LONDON'S WINTER WONDERLAND
Ingrid will meet you at Hyde Park Corner tube station, exit 1 and then as a group you can all go to the Winter Wonderland. Winter Wonderland has two Christmas Markets, Ice Skating, Rides, a Magical Ice Kingdom with snow and ice sculptures, and a Christmas Circus! This seasonal even set up every year in Hyde Park is the perfect place to practice your low light action photography capturing the atmosphere of the lights and movement and rides! Visit the official site for more information - Winter Wonderland.
The Winter Wonderland Walk will run from 12pm to 4pm.
For both Walks you will need a digital camera with the ability to set both aperture and shutter speed and a tripod.
£10 GD Progression Discount Applies to the both Christmas PhotoSafaris for students progressing from other GDLSE courses.
London Photowalks & Street and Travel Photography Worksops
On Going Digital’s London Street Safaris there is no classroom session - just pure photography from beginning to end with feedback and advice from your Tutor.
Two different courses are available - South Bank Evening Low Light and Night Photography Workshops and Street and Travel Photography Courses throughout the most iconic toursist areas in London. Unlike some photowalks with twenty plus attendees, our courses are limited to just 4 people so there is plenty of time to get lots of one-to-one support from your Tutor. Perfect to gain confidence photographing people, street scenes and city life, the Street and Travel Photography Courses run from 10am to 3.30pm. The Twilight Courses run from 6.30 pm to 9.30pm. Both courses are suitable for all ages and fitness levels (the route is a gentle amble with plenty of stops for coffee and to review pictures) and also suitable for all cameras (bridge cameras, compacts, compact system and DSLRs).
If you have ever wanted to immerse yourself into photographing people within a street environment but were too frightened to...then a Going Digital Street and Travel Photography Course is your chance to get really confident photographing people and to capture the diversity of London's wonderful urbanisation of people! Brick Lane Market, Covent Garden Market and Borough Markets all offer fantastic candid portraiture opportunities. Whether you want to improve your street or holiday photography or just want to practice and improve your skills, one of these courses is ideal for you as each course is set amongst some of London's most famous landmarks.
Our workshops in London are led by Tas Black, MA Photography and Visual Anthropology. Tas has published in numerous magazines and exhibited internationally. She specialises in travel photography, social documentary, reportage photography and portraiture. Tas will teach you new skills and give you feedback and one-to-one support throughout the day!

The City & Borough Market to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London Travel & Street Photography Safari
We will meet at 10 am in the Crosse Keys Public House in Gracechurch Street. From there we will cross over London Bridge to Walk down the river-side to Southwalk Cathedral and Borough Market. From here we progress along the South Bank past HMS Belfast to Tower Bridge. We will photograph Tower Bridge before moving on to the Tower of London where so many lost their heads! We will stop for you to lunch in the Tower area at Trinity Square. After lunch, we will walk back towards the city photographing some of the great monuments and buildings inside the walls of the ancient City and end our day at Bank station.
STUDENT FEEDBACK - Thanks to Tas for a great day yesterday. Thanks to her efforts I spent most of the day on manual mode, I really like the idea of the classroom on the hoof, rather than sitting in a room and explaining loads of theory we just got on with taking photos and Anastasia corrected us as we went. Well done Tas. Once again thanks for great day, Rick.
Market Bliss - Bricklane Travel & Street Photography SafariWe will meet at 10 am in the Hamilton Hall Wetherspoons, street-level Concourse, Liverpool Street Station. From there we will take a short walk to Spitalfields Markets, Petticoat Lane Market and Bricklane Market in Shoreditch where retro meets vintage, and where the graffiti artist Banksy gained much of his recognition.
Bricklane is buzzing on a Sunday with the wonderful and the unusual. This a good chance to really get out there and practice capturing people at their best.
Covent Garden to China Town Travel & Street Photography SafariWe meet at 10am in the Marks and Spencer's cafe to the left of Covent Garden tube station. We will spend time in the Covent Garden Piazza where we will spend 30 minutes discussing the settings on your digital camera. Then we take a leisurly stroll to put these skills into practice photographing “Living Statues”/street performers and a variety of café culture, “olde worlde”, shops and stalls, at one of London’s most famous landmarks. Our next stop will be Leicester Square, amongst the busy restaurants, theatres, caricature artists, and tourists before heading into China Town.
After lunch we will stroll through to London’s famous China Town where we can take practice taking colourful photographs in this vibrant, culturally rich area, through Soho to Trafalgar Square before closing our day at 3.30pm.
Twilight by the Thames - An Evening Photowalk
We will meet at 6.30 pm at the Cafe Nero, Lancaster Place, 2 Lancaster Place London, WC2E 7EA. From Waterloo Bridge we will slowly make our way along the South Bank to Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Parliament. The view of our great London city doesn’t get any better than an evening on Waterloo Bridge - The London eye heroically lit up, the Houses of Parliament at sunset, the reflections in River Thames, the night life on the South Bank. This is a chance to learn how to photograph during the golden hour and into the night to practice your low light photography skills and to capture our city at night.
You will need a digital camera with the ability to set both aperture and shutter speed and a tripod. This walk runs from 6.30-9.30pm.
Thanks to Jeanette Thomson for this lovely shot!
STUDENT FEEDBACK - Please pass on my thanks to Tas for teaching us during the Photowalk through the West End today. Whilst from previous reading I was familiar with taking manual based photo's, she helped me understand ISO a bit better and the differences between zoom and non zoom lenses and also gave some good advice when reviewing some of the pictures we'd shot today. A really enjoyable experience and a good fun group. Would highly recommend it.
Many thanks and with best regards, Will Holme(3/08/2013).
Tish, Can you thank Tas for a wonderful day out in Covent garden. She provided excellent weather to start the day off with and even when it started to rain we still got some lovely photos. She managed to keep us all entertained and help everyone on the day with tips and advice no matter what their levels were. She was able to give us confidence to go and take lots of people photos which is one of my worst fears I have upload some of the photos to my flickr page and have also put some of those onto the photo walk Flickr page. Now which walk shall I book next? J.
Hi, I really enjoyed the Photo Walk & felt I learnt a lot as well as gaining confidence photographing the general public. I've uploaded about half of the pictures I took to my London Street Safari Gallery. Thanks a lot for a good day out. Best regards, Dave Tremayne.
Just wanted to say thank you for a really good day. Met Tas as per instructions and was really impressed by her enthusiasm to get us actually taking lots of pictures of London and the people and strictly not on auto mode - learnt all about exposure, speed, aperture and ISO settings. She had an eye and knowledge to push us to try new things which we all did. It has given me the confidence to keep on trying to take more pictures of people. Thank you Tas and Going Digital. Have uploaded a few pics to Flickr group, Peter.
Hi Tish and Andy, just wanted to let you know that the workshop yesterday was excellent and I really enjoyed it. Tas was really laid back and a great tutor with a real eye for how to improve a shot by using very simple, straightforward techniques. We visited pretty much most of London and got some great shots - which I will post on Flickr soon. Thanks again, Steve.
