NEW - Three Hour Photo Walk at Felley Priory.

Felley Priory is a tranquil and beautiful 2.5 acre garden featuring many rare and varied plants, is nestled in the rolling countryside of north Nottinghamshire.  Easily accessed from the M1, the gardens have been carefully planted so that there is something of interest all year around, including the most amazing topiary!

We will have the gardens to ourslves until 9am and the walk will begin very early in the morning in order to make the most of the morning light and you'll be accompanied by professional photographer Louise Mills, who will be on hand to provide inspiration, tips, advice on composition and guidance on how to photograph the gardens, flowers and landscape.

The cost includes the entry fee and the walk is suitable for any type of camera and a tripod would be advantageous.  Joining details with start times, meeting place and directions how to get there will be emailed around a week beforehand.

Birds of Prey Photo Walk and Handling Experience. 

 
A three hour photo walk in the stunning surroundings of Sherwood Forest to make the most of the evening light with our Falconer Simon and his array of hawks, owls and eagles.  We'll meet at around 5pm (dependingon the season) in the forest and take a leisurely stroll through the woods, with opportunities to shoot both portrait and flying shots, with professional photographer Louise Mills on hand to give help, guidance and advice on how to best photograph the birds. 

 The session will also include an opportunity to fly and handle the birds if you wish and to have photos taken with them as well as getting up close and personal with them to take beautifully detailed shots. 

 
Limited to 7 people, you should be comfortable working in Aperture Priority and please be aware that this is a three hour walk in the fields and woods, therefore you must be mobile.

We build on the Part 1 workshop look at how and when to use Manual Mode and Shutter Priority along with learning how to freeze motion to take sharp action shots and how to blur motion to create light trails and 'smooth water' in your landscapes.   We look at metering and fill in flash to help overcome tricky lighting situation and also how and when to use filters to improve your landscape photography.

There is a theory session with a presentation along with two practical session where you'll be guided and accompanied by tutor and professional photographer Louise Mills.

NEW for Autumn - Creative Studio Portraits.

This is a three hour studio portrait session for a maximum of three people running from 6pm until 9pm in the Nottingham studio with professional photographer Louise Mills.  We'll be learning about different lighting set ups, how and when to use different softboxes and lighting modifers, using props, hand painted backgrounds and looking at posing.  We'll be using professional Elinchrom studio lighting and softboxes, so your camera will need to have a hot shoe fitting.

This is a purely practical session and there will be a maximum of three people to allow for maximum shooting time and individual attention.  The session can be used to enhance your current portfolio, as an introduction into studio portraits and lighting, to learn about posing or just as a fun evening!

This is a level three workshop, so a working knowledge of manual mode is required.  A model is provided and light refreshments are available.

Deer Walks on Wollaton Park.

Join us for a Deer Walk in the grounds of Wollaton Hall and Deer Park.  The park is home to over 100 red and fallow deer who roam free and often pop into the lake, providing opportunities for some incredible photography!   The walk is during rutting season so there's also the chance to capture them rutting, bellowing and generally behaving badly!

The walk begins at 7am, to take advantage of the early morning light and we aim to finish at around 10.30am.  There is no classroom time, just pure photography and the price includes a coffee/tea and a chat in the Courtyard Cafe at the end of the walk.

Please be aware that this involves walking through parkland and over uneven ground; you should be sufficiently fit and mobile to take part.  Maximum of six students.

This is a full day's introduction to close up and macro photography. We look at different techniques and learn how to take sharp and incredibly detailed close-ups, which can also be used to take product shots for eBay or for your own website.

This workshop includes a presentation to look at the theory and two practical photography sessions, one outdoors, to photograph the flora, fauna and little creatures and insects that call Clumber their home and the other indoors, where we'll set up individual work stations and use torches, lights, reflectors and light tents to creat amazing and beautiful photos.

Portraits with Flash

Learn how to control your flash to create beautifully lit portraits, from the natural to the more dramatic with tutor and professional photographer Louise Mills. 

You'll learn how to mix and balance flash with ambient light, how to bounce the flash to create softer light, and how to control shadows.  We look at using flash as a main light source, as well as trying out reflectors and different modifiers to create beautiful, flattering light.  We'll also show you a simple studio set up using off camera flash and some of the effects that you can achieve.  A hot shoe flash is required to get the most out of this workshop and a model is provided.

White Post Farm Wildlife Photography in White Post Farm

NEW for Autumn - Close Up and Personal: Wildlife Photography.

This is a brand new three hour photography experience running from 1-4pm at White Post Farm in North Nottinghamshire and is limited to six places.

You'll have the opportunity to photograph a variety of small creatures including snakes, tarantulas, lizards, frogs, insects and other creatures.   Tutor Louise will guide you through photographing these small creatures, looking at the importrance of depth of field, using the correct focus points and the difference that props and backgrounds make to the image.  

With two sets ups, there will be a maximum of three people photographing each animal at any one time and Louise will be on hand to offer support and advice and to answer any questions you may have.

The price includes entrance into White Post Farm. Ideally you'll have been on a Part 1 workshop and have a working knowledge of aperture, ISO and shutter speed.  A macro lens would be advantageous.

A day long workshop, set within the beautiful surroundings of Sudbury Hall's Museum of Childhood and its lovely gardens and lake, you'll learn to take control of your camera and use Aperture Priority to get your photos looking more how you want them to look!  We take you through the different buttons and dials on your camera, so that you understand what they do, how to change them and explain how and when to use them.

We start the day with a theory session, then take you through the different buttons and dials on your camera so that you understand what they do, how to change them and explain how and when to use them.  In the afternoon there is a practical session, with a review of images at the end of the day and time to answer any questions.

This is a brand new three hour photography experience running from 1-4pm at White Post Farm in North Nottinghamshire and is limited to six places.

You'll have the opportunity to photograph a variety of small creatures including snakes, tarantulas, lizards, frogs, insects and other creatures.   Tutor Louise will guide you through photographing these small creatures, looking at the importrance of depth of field, using the correct focus points and the difference that props and backgrounds make to the image.  

With two sets ups, there will be a maximum of three people photographing each animal at any one time and Louise will be on hand to offer support and advice and to answer any questions you may have.

The price includes entrance into White Post Farm. Ideally you'll have been on a Part 1 workshop and have a working knowledge of aperture, ISO and shutter speed.  A macro lens would be advantageous.

Based at White Post Farm, we'll be in the classroom where you'll learn the theory behind taking stunning portrait and flying shots of the birds.   We'll follow this with two practical sessions so that you can practice what you've learned.

Accompanied by professional photographer Louise and Simon our falconer, the morning's practical session will be a time to practice and hone your portrait and flying shots of the birds in the grounds of White Post Farm.

After lunch, we'll head to the stunning setting of Sherwood Forest with it's ancient trees and forest, which will provde a beautiful backdrop to take portrait shots of the birds in the fields, trees, woodlands and hollowed out tree trunks.  This will be followed by an action session where you'll capture the beauty of the birds in flight.  Our falconer Simon provides a fabulous selection of birds of prey for you to photograph including  eagles, hawks, falcons and owls.

With a maximum of 10 students; there are both theory and practical sessions on this workshop, and supporting notes and handouts are provided.

East Midlands Wildlife & Nature Photo Walks in East Midlands

NEW - Three Hour Photo Walk at Felley Priory.

Felley Priory is a tranquil and beautiful 2.5 acre garden nestled in the rolling countryside of north Nottinghamshire.  Easily accessed from the M1, the gardens have been carefully planted so that there is something of interest all year around, including the most amazing topiary!

As this walk will be taking place during bluebell season, we will be primarily concentrating on bluebells, however there is so much more to photograph should you wish!

We will have the gardens to ourselves until 9am, the walk will begin very early in the morning in order to make the most of the morning light and you'll be accompanied by professional photographer Louise Mills, who will be on hand to provide inspiration, tips, advice on composition and guidance on how to photograph the gardens, flowers and landscape.

The price includes a cup of tea/coffee, the entry fee and the walk is suitable for any type of camera and a tripod would be advantageous.  Joining details with start times, meeting place and directions how to get there will be emailed around a week beforehand.
