Spring is one of the best times of year to photograph water. The rivers and waterfalls are often full of energy, the landscape starts to burst into life, and the fresh greens and soft spring light create the perfect atmosphere for dramatic and beautiful images.
On this workshop, we’ll explore water and its many moods — from powerful, fast-moving flows to calmer, more reflective scenes. You’ll learn how to capture water in different ways depending on the conditions, and how to create photographs that feel full of movement, depth and emotion.
Throughout the session we’ll teach you how to:
Freeze water to capture crisp detail and texture
Blur water to create soft, silky movement
Understand shutter speed and exposure to control the final look
Use ND filters for long exposure photography
Improve your composition, framing and storytelling
Work with reflections, leading lines and natural patterns
Filters are provided for you to use on the day, so you can experiment with different effects and see exactly how they transform your images.
A tripod is essential for this workshop. We do have a limited number available to borrow — please make a note on the booking form if you need one.
Online Training Session (Included)
To help you feel confident and prepared, we host an Online Training Session a few days before the workshop (usually the Wednesday at around 6.30pm). The session is recorded for anyone who can’t attend live or would like a refresher afterwards.
Practical Workshop Session
We’ll then meet on location for the practical part of the workshop which will last around 3.5 hours, starting at 9am.
Personal Photo Review (Optional Bonus)
After the workshop, you’ll have the option to send over some of your images from the day and join me for a personal photo review over Zoom, where we’ll talk through your photos and how you can keep improving.
