Theme: Heather and Moors Day with the Dogs (includes natural light, studio work, and outdoor action) A dog photography workshop with Pandora and award-winning specialist canine photographer Caroline Dell who will be our guest tutor for the day. Working with Caroline's own dogs our day will be based at her ranch studio near Sheffield. LIGHTROOM CLASSIC - FOR BEGINNERS Ever looked at Lightroom and wondered 'where do I start?' then this could be for you! From system navigation we'll move to importing images, basic editing and exporting your final photo. This workshop is limited to just two people in our Leeds studio and after an introduction to Lightroom, we'll work together editing the same photo, then you will use your new skills to edit your own images with support. You will need a laptop with Lightroom Classic installed (you can download a trial version ahead of the workshop if you don't have it already), some of your own images to edit and a notebook. INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY PART 1 - ROUNDHAY PARK : If you're stuck on the Auto setting on your camera and frustrated because you're not getting the photos that you want, then this is the course for you! This workshop will have a maximum of 10 students and will last 5 and a half hours with a start time of 10.30am. It takes place within the magnificent Roundhay Park in the education rooms, where we will banish jargon and explain in plain English how to take control of your camera and get off Auto. This workshop is both classroom and field-based, you'll leave with plenty of useful reference materials. Creative Landscapes
Shipley Glen
WOODLAND AND WATER - Descending from Baildon Moor, the ancient woodland, rocky crags and Lodepit Beck will allow us to get really creative with our photography. Capture detail, textures and patterns within the woodland and rocks, and try your hand at blurring the water rushing over the rocks at Lodepit Beck. Filters are provided for you to use on the day. A tripod is essential and we have some available to borrow, please make a note on the booking form. To prepare you for the day we hold a Zoom Presentation a few days before (usually the Wednesday around 6.30 pm). The Zoom session is recorded for those who can't make it and for anyone who wants a refresher before we meet. We will then meet up at Shipley Glen for the practical part of the workshop which will be about 3 and a half hours starting at 9.00 am. Finally, everyone has the option to send me some of their pictures from the day and have a personal photo review over Zoom. Terrain A short walk from the car park, you'll need to walk the steep-sided valley to make the most of the opportunity. Previous Experience: To get the most from this workshop, you should have attended our beginner's photography course or be familiar with the use of Aperture Priority, Exposure Compensation and ISO.
URBAN LANDSCAPES- Growing in popularity urban photography takes in architecture, cityscapes, art (graffiti included), and street photography. Enjoy a guided photo walk with photographer Kate who will teach you the skills to be able to get stunning shots within a wildlife park environment, we will be covering the correct settings depending on the size and speed of the animal, how to compose your shots to make them wow and being aware of animal behaviours. BIRDS OF PREY: This workshop consists of a Zoom Presentation a few days before (usually held around 6.30pm on the Wednesday - recorded if you can't make it) which you can watch and ask questions in the comfort of your own home. With all the key information ready to hand we will then meet up at the venue with our falconer for the practical side of the workshop with 3 hours of photography and support from your tutor on the day. Our falconer will bring a selection of birds and we will have plenty of time to capture stunning portraits and flying action. This session will run from 10am until 1pm the exact location will be confirmed nearer the time but it is in the Pontefract area. After the day, everyone will have the option of sending me some of their pictures from the day to have a personal review over zoom. Ideally you'll have been on a Part 1 workshop and have an understanding of aperture, ISO and shutter speed and a zoom lens would be an advantage on this workshop.

MOTORSPORT PHOTOGRAPHY. Fine-tune your action photography skills and perfect your panning with an action-packed day at Harewood Hillclimb. A must for any motorsports enthusiast Harewood Hillclimb offers fantastic vantage points with no fencing to block your shots. Cars vary from vintage classics to race cars and modified production cars, there is something to suit everyone. Each car races individually against the clock, with practice sessions in the morning and the races in the afternoon in addition, there is access to the paddock area. Kate will guide you through the skills and techniques required to photograph all the action. Limited to 5 students. The price of the workshop does not include entry fee (from £12.50) or lunch. HAREWOOD ESTATE - WILDLIFE & ESTATE ANIMALS PHOTO WALK - Red Kites, 3 species of deer, highland cattle, Hebridean sheep and a Vietnamese potbellied pig called Cyril! Join us for a photo walk around the Harewood Estate with access to areas not open to the general public. Take in the stunning scenery as we make our way around photographing wildlife and estate animals. The walk is from 10am until 3pm and is a slow meander as we stop to take pictures along the way. DEER PHOTOGRAPHY WALK. A must for any keen wildlife photographers. Join us in October for a fabulous walk in the Studley Royal Deer Park at Fountains Abbey. Your tutor Kate will be there to offer help and advice to get the best out of the session and also will find the best places to photograph the 3 varieties of deer that are kept within the park and hopefully catch some of the rutting action.. Meeting up at 8am for a chat before we start, the walk is approximately 3 miles and finishes about 11am. A min 300mm lens is recommended.

You'll learn all about composition, exposure and using graduated filters to create more dramatic landscape photography. Learn how to photograph in the dark, make the most of the Christmas lights and practise your low-light photography skills to capture Sheffield at night, and even a bit of light painting. We will meet at 6.50 pm near the Crucible Theatre before setting off at 7pm. INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY - PART 3 - ROUNDHAY PARK Bring together all the skills learnt during our earlier courses and move beyond to change the way that you think about your photos in terms of composition. The art of composition is a key element of photography but is often overlooked in favour of the technical side. On this workshop we study all the different elements that work, both individually and together, to create a stunning photograph, including colours, textures, angles and a host of other elements that influence your photos. We also show you how and why to work in full Manual Mode to further improve your images. The presentation part of the workshop will be delivered over Zoom on the Wednesday evening prior to the workshop, we will then meet up at Roundhay Park from 10.00 am- 12.30 pm for the practical part of the workshop on enhancing your photography skills.
