OPEN-DATED 1:1 PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION - A tailor-made photography experience designed just for you. Enjoy a full one-to-one day (or optional half-day refresher) with Kate as your personal tutor, focusing on any of our core photography subjects — from landscapes and portraits to creative techniques. After booking, you’ll be contacted within 24 hours to discuss your goals and arrange a suitable location. Full-day sessions can take place anywhere in Yorkshire, while half-day sessions are held in Leeds. All sessions are held on weekdays, and you’re welcome to bring one guest free of charge. The half-day option (£150) is ideal if you already understand the basics and want to concentrate on one particular aspect of photography or simply refresh your skills. EQUIPMENT - To make the most of this session, you’ll need: A lens in the 100–400mm range (recommended for flexibility). A sturdy tripod is essential. We recommend (but not essential) a cable shutter release (preferred over remote triggers, which can lag)
ACCESSIBILITY - A short walk from the meeting point across a field. Sensible walking footwear is recommended. Please note: there are no toilet facilities, so it's back to nature!

For this workshop, we’ll explore Kelham Island, one of Sheffield’s most fascinating and photogenic areas. Once the heart of the city’s steel industry, it’s now a thriving creative hub full of contrasts — cobbled streets and converted warehouses, independent cafés and colourful murals, historic bridges and reflections on the River Don. There’s no shortage of textures, tones and stories to photograph.
The Urban Landscapes Workshop includes three parts:
Online Group Training Session – an interactive Zoom presentation held a few days before (usually the Wednesday around 6.00pm). We’ll cover camera settings, composition, and exposure tips to help you create striking urban images. The session is recorded for anyone who can’t attend live or wants a refresher.
In-Person Photowalk – we’ll meet outside the Kelham Island Museum for a fun and relaxed 3½-hour photo walk, starting at 9am. We’ll explore the area’s industrial heritage and modern edge, giving you plenty of opportunities to practise what you’ve learned.
One-to-One Photo Review – after the workshop, you’ll have the chance to send in some of your images for a personal online review and feedback session. A tripod isn’t essential — being able to move freely, crouch low or change your viewpoint will help you capture more creative compositions.
Previous Experience: To get the most from this workshop, you should have attended our Beginner’s Photography Course or be familiar with using Aperture Priority, Exposure Compensation, and ISO.
Please note: Kelham Island’s charm lies in its historic character, which includes uneven ground and cobbled streets. These features make for wonderfully textured and atmospheric photographs, but may not be suitable for everyone. Comfortable footwear is essential, and we’ll take our time exploring at a relaxed pace.

RACE THE WAVES - PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE - BRIDLINGTON BEACH Read More
Meet: 9:45am | Approx finish: 2:00pm (flexible time) Join Kate for an incredible photography experience at the spectacular Race The Waves event on Bridlington Beach — a unique vintage motorbike and car race set against the stunning Yorkshire coastline. This is a brilliant opportunity to photograph beautifully restored vintage vehicles, action-packed racing, and the amazing atmosphere created by drivers and riders dressed in authentic vintage clothing.
What We’ll Photograph - We’ll begin on the beach amongst the display vehicles and competitors, giving us time to capture:
Vintage cars and motorbikes up close
Environmental portraits and detail shots
Drivers and riders in vintage dress
Documentary-style images of the event atmosphere
Around 11am, the vehicles parade down the beach towards the race area — another fantastic photographic opportunity with lots of movement and storytelling moments. The racing is scheduled to begin from approximately 11am and continues into the afternoon, giving us the chance to practise:
Action photography
Photographing moving subjects
Panning techniques
Capturing speed and motion
Candid documentary-style photography
Important Information - Please note that this is a live public event and timings may change on the day.We are planning to meet at 9:45am and finish at approximately 2pm, but some flexibility will be needed depending on the event schedule. The event can become very busy, particularly around the vehicle displays. You’ll need to be comfortable either patiently waiting for opportunities or confidently moving around crowds to find the best angles and moments. There will be walking involved throughout the session — likely a couple of miles in total — across the promenade and beach areas.
Recommended Equipment - You’ll ideally need:
A zoom lens for photographing the racing action from a safe distance
A wide-angle or standard lens for vehicle displays, environmental shots, and storytelling images
Experience Level - Skill level 3 - This experience is best suited to photographers who already have some understanding of their camera settings and some experience photographing moving subjects. The day is designed to help you build confidence with:
Action photography
Panning
Timing and anticipation
Documentary and storytelling photography
Most importantly, it’s a chance to enjoy a truly spectacular event with plenty of support and guidance throughout the session.

If you’re stuck on Auto and feeling frustrated that your photos never look quite how you imagined, this workshop is for you! With a maximum of just four students, you’ll enjoy plenty of individual guidance and time to ask questions.
The day runs from 10:30am – 4:00pm at our photography studio in Morley, Leeds, and includes hands-on practice in Churwell’s award-winning urban woodlands – the perfect place to put your new skills into action.
We’ll skip the jargon and explain everything in plain English, helping you finally take control of your camera and get off Auto mode with confidence. This workshop combines relaxed classroom learning with fun practical sessions, and you’ll leave with helpful reference materials to support your continued learning.

DEER PHOTOGRAPHY WALK - Studley Royal Deer Park Read More
A must for keen wildlife photographers, this autumn photography walk takes us to the beautiful Studley Royal Deer Park at Fountains Abbey — home to three varieties of deer set within stunning parkland and autumn colour.
Your tutor Kate will be on hand throughout the session to offer help and advice on camera settings, focusing techniques, and photographing wildlife with longer lenses.
October is rutting season, so with a bit of luck we may witness some rutting behaviour and interaction, although these are wild animals and sightings can never be guaranteed.
We’ll meet at 8am for a quick chat before setting off. The walk is approximately 3 miles and finishes around 11am.
Skill Level
Skill Level 2Participants should already feel confident changing camera settings independently and have some experience photographing moving subjects.
Equipment
A minimum 300mm lens is essential for this walk. Spare batteries and memory cards are also recommended.
Terrain
Please be aware that the terrain can be rough and uneven in places, with walking across natural pathways and parkland. Suitable outdoor footwear and clothing are recommended.
Final meeting details will be emailed approximately one week before the walk.

Red Squirrel Hide
RED SQUIRRELS & AUTUMN COLOURS - PHOTOGRAPHY HIDE. Join photographer Kate at a superb private hide in North Yorkshire to spend 5 hours photographing red squirrels. Limited to just 4 people, we have exclusive use of 2 hides, one in the woodland and another by the reflection pool (the only one in England) where you can photograph the squirrels playing by the water, we will also have the opportunity to photograph them on the jumping platform depending on how they feel on the day (catching them in mid flight). The location takes us on a 7 min steep walk through rough terrain and Photography Skill Level 3 (knowledge of moving subjects, using manual or shutter priority) is required - for more detailed information click on the Book Now Read More
This is a skill level 3 workshop.
The location is near Hawes DL8 3NT and we meet at 8.30am where you will be driven to the site, which is then a 7 minute walk on rough terrain.
Lens coverage of 100 - 400mm is recommended to cover all eventualities (though the squirrels do come really close) and you will need a sturdy tripod and cable release if you wish to try and photograph the jumping squirrels.
There are no toilet facilities (so it is back to nature) and there is no phone coverage. The session finishes about 1.30pm when the squirrels tend to disappear.

Join us at Bolton Abbey this autumn for a relaxed and friendly landscape photography workshop capturing the beautiful colours, reflections and atmosphere of the season. This workshop is designed as an introduction to landscape photography and is perfect for photographers who want to build confidence, improve composition and learn how to create more thoughtful, creative landscape images. Throughout the session we’ll explore a variety of scenes including wider landscapes, woodland details, reflections in the water and storytelling compositions — all while enjoying one of Yorkshire’s most beautiful autumn locations. This is a supportive group session with a real community feel, giving you plenty of opportunity to learn, practise and photograph alongside like-minded people.
Workshop Includes:

Online Zoom training session before the workshop, usually the Tues/Wed before at 6pm (recorded if you can’t attend live).
In-person group workshop at Bolton Abbey - 9am - 1pm
Optional personal online photo review after the session
Requirements
You must have completed our Get Off Auto workshop and be comfortable using Aperture Priority.

This workshop is not suitable for wheelchairs and will involve walking over uneven ground for several hours while carrying camera equipment. Walking footwear is essential and participants should feel comfortable covering some distance during the session.
