Join Professional Photographer Kate for a few hours at Bempton Cliffs and learn the skills required to photograph a range of sea birds including Gannets, Puffins and Guillemots plus many more. Around half a million seabirds gather here between March and October to raise a family on the towering chalk cliffs which overlook the sea. Kate will guide you through getting the most from your camera to ensure you get some super pictures from the session. A minimum 300 mm lens is recommended for this workshop. INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY PART 1 - LEEDS: If you're stuck on the Auto setting on your camera and frustrated because you're not getting the photos that you want, then this is the course for you! This workshop will have a maximum of 4 students, so you'll get plenty of support, and runs from 10.30am - 4.00pm. It takes place in our photography studio in Morley, Leeds, using Churwell's award-winning urban woodlands to practise your new skills. We will banish jargon and explain in plain English how to take control of your camera and get off Auto. This workshop is both classroom and field-based, and you'll leave with plenty of useful reference materials. Red Squirrel Hide
RED SQUIRRELS - PHOTOGRAPHY HIDE. Join photographer Kate at a superb private hide in North Yorkshire to spend 5 hours photographing red squirrels. Limited to just 4 people, we have exclusive use of 2 hides one in the woodland and another by the reflection pool (the only one in England) where you can photograph the squirrels playing by the water, we will also have the opportunity to photograph them on the jumping platform depending on how they feel on the day (catching them in mid flight). The location takes us on a 7 min steep walk through rough terrain and Photography Skill Level 3 is required - for more detailed information click on the Book Now
CLOSE-UP & MACRO - Introduction to close-up and macro photography - learn to take creative and detailed close-ups. We'll photograph flowers and other small objects to create something special and introduce lighting for different effects. We'll have many props and you are welcome to bring your own. This workshop is also great for learning how to take product shots for your business, eBay or website. The workshop will take place in our Studio in Morley, Leeds from 10.30am - 3.30pm with space for just TWO STUDENTS, you'll get lots of help to develop your skills and plenty of time to practise. Exact details will be sent out nearer the time. Weather depending we may go into the local woods to practise your new skills. Skill level 2 - an understanding of aperture priority is requested. For this workshop, you will need a standard macro lens or standard 18-55 lens (or similar). You will also need a tripod - we have load tripods, leave a note on your booking.
KINGFISHER HIDE SESSIONS. Join professional photographer Kate at a private hide just outside Leeds to spend 5 hours photographing kingfishers. LIGHTROOM CLASSIC - FOR BEGINNERS Ever looked at Lightroom and wondered 'where do I start?' then this could be for you! From system navigation, we'll move to importing images, basic editing and exporting your final photo. This workshop is limited to just two people in our Leeds studio and after an introduction to Lightroom Classic, we'll work together editing the same photo, then you will use your new skills to edit your own images with support. You will need a laptop with Lightroom Classic installed (you can download a trial version ahead of the workshop if you don't have it already), some of your own images to edit and a notebook, a graphics tablet is useful but not essential. Running from 10.30 am - 3.30 pm - joining instructions will be sent nearer the time.

MOTORSPORT PHOTOGRAPHY - Fine-tune your action photography skills & perfect your panning at the YORKSHIRE SPEED HILLCLIMB, Harewood. A must for any motorsports enthusiast, Harewood Hillclimb offers fantastic vantage points with no fencing to block your shots. Cars vary from vintage classics to race cars and modified production cars, there is something to suit everyone. Each car races individually against the clock, with practise sessions in the morning and the races in the afternoon. In addition, there is access to the paddock area. Kate will guide you through the skills and techniques required to photograph all the action. Limited to 5 students, the price of the photography experience does not include entry fee (around £15). To get the most out of this experience a 200mm lens is recommended. The photography session is from 10am until 1.30pm - we'll photograph the practise sessions in the morning and visit the paddock to capture the atmosphere and photograph the cars close up. URBAN LANDSCAPES- Growing in popularity urban photography takes in architecture, cityscapes, art (graffiti included), and street photography. Starting at the Leeds Dock 'the creative waterside village' we'll make our way towards the city centre with opportunities to capture all the quirkiness the city has to offer. The session consists of an Online group training session, in-person group Photowalk and online one-to-one photo review. You'll learn all about settings, composition and exposure to create dramatic urban photographs. A tripod isn't essential, being able to freely move around, lie on your tummy to get those amazing angles is better. To prepare you for the day we hold a Zoom Presentation a few days before (usually the Wednesday around 6.30pm). The Zoom session is recorded for those who can't make it and for anyone who wants a refresher before we meet. We will then meet up at Leeds Dock for the practical part of the workshop which will be about 3 and a half hours starting at 9am. Finally, everyone will have the option of sending me some of their pictures from the day and have a personal photo review over Zoom. Previous Experience: To get the most from this workshop, you should have attended ourbeginner's photography courseor be familiar with the use of Aperture Priority, Exposure Compensation and ISO.
STREET PHOTOGRAPHY YORK - BOTH ONLINE & IN PERSON - Join Kate on a photo walk around the beautiful streets of York to capture 'life'. You'll learn about storytelling and composition in street photography, understand light sources and learn effective techniques. To prepare you for the day we hold an online session a few days before (usually the Wednesday around 6.30pm). The online session is recorded for those who can't make it and anyone who wants a refresher. The in-person workshop will run from 10am to 1pm meeting point to be confirmed nearer the day. Finally, everyone will have the option to send Kate some pictures from the day and have a personal photo review online. This is a level 2 workshop (comfortable working in aperture priority) - a standard lens is perfect (18-55 or similar) and if you have a longer lens you are welcome to bring that along too (not essential).

BIRDS OF PREY - Photograph a stunning selection of birds in a private woodland with the opportunity to capture portraits and flight action. This workshop consists of a Zoom Presentation a few days before (usually held around 6.30pm on a Wednesday - recorded if you can't make it) which you can watch and ask questions in the comfort of your own home. With all the key information ready to hand we will then meet up at the private woodland with our falconer for the practical side of the workshop with 3 hours of photography and support from your tutor on the day. This session will run from 10am until 1pm in the Pontefract area - the exact location will be confirmed the week before. After the session, everyone will have the option of sending me some of their pictures from the day to have a personal review over zoom. Ideally, you'll have been on a Part 1 workshop and have an understanding of aperture, ISO and shutter speed and a zoom lens would be an advantage on this workshop.

Family & Children Photography Workshop – Introduction to Posed & Candid Portraits - Roundhay Park, Leeds. Join us for a friendly and practical workshop designed to help you confidently photograph families and children. This hands-on experience includes online training to prepare you for the shoot, an in-person session where you'll learn to pose families naturally and capture beautiful candid moments, plus a follow-up online image review and mentoring session. Perfect for hobbyists with families or anyone curious about family photography as a future offering! A couple of volunteer families will join us on the day.Online training usually takes place the Wednesday evening before the in-person session. Around an hour long, the session is recorded so you can access it again, or catch up if you can't make the live event.This is a Level 2 workshop, and an understanding of Aperture Priority is required. A standard lens is ideal for posed portraits, while a longer lens is useful for capturing candid shots.

AYSGARTH FALLS & AUTUMN COLOURS - Arguably Yorkshire's most stunning waterfalls - we'll photograph the three-stepped waterfalls and by mid October the autumn leaves will only add to the stunning scenery, giving us lots of opportunities to take fantastic photos. We'll teach you how to freeze and blur the fast-moving water and you'll learn all about composition, exposure, using ND filters to create dramatic photographs. Filters are provided for you to use on the day. A tripod is essential and we have some available to borrow, please make a note on the booking form. To prepare you for the day we host an Online training session a few days before (usually the Wednesday around 6.30pm). The Online session is recorded for those who can't make it and anyone who wants a refresher. We will then meet up at Aysgarth for the practical part of the workshop which will be about 3 and a half hours starting at 9am. DEER PHOTOGRAPHY WALK. A must for any keen wildlife photographers. Join us in October for a fabulous walk in the Studley Royal Deer Park at Fountains Abbey. Your tutor Kate will be there to offer help and advice to get the best out of the session and also will find the best places to photograph the 3 varieties of deer that are kept within the park and hopefully catch some of the rutting action.. Meeting up at 8am for a chat before we start, the walk is approximately 3 miles and finishes about 11am. A min 300mm lens is recommended.

NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY WALK - LEEDS Learn how to get stunning night shots and practice your low-light photography skills to capture Leeds at night, including light trails with slow shutter speeds and painting with light. We will meet at 6.30 pm in Millennium Square for a warm drink and chat before setting off. We will then make our way around the city centre making the most of the great photographic opportunities the city has to offer. You will need a digital camera with the ability to set both aperture and shutter speed and a tripod (we can loan tripods). This walk runs from 6.30-9pm.
