BIRDS OF PREY PHOTOGRAPHY

Birds of Prey Photography

Introduction to Photographing Birds of Prey

Photograph Birds of Prey at Burghley House

We will be using the parkland at Burghley House, just off the A1 at Stamford in Lincolnshire as our venue for these workshops, providing stunning backgrounds for the birds.

Bird Portrait Photographs

By working in a controlled environment, you will learn to take sharp, well-composed and correctly exposed photos.  On the day the owls and falcons will be positioned to suit our requirements and you will be able to get very close.  We will make the most of some great settings to photograph the static birds, with woodland where we will do our best to hide the jesses, to give the appearance of a real “in the wild” photograph.  Our aim is to show you how to take photographs that require only minimal adjustments or editing in Photoshop/Elements.

Action Photography

There will also be some slow-flying sessions to give you the best possible opportunity to get some shots, with advice on how to get the best from your camera for action shots.

Wildlife photographer John Wright has kindly agreed to lead these workshops.

Get the Best from Your Camera

We will begin each workshop with a classroom-based session showing you how to use the features of your digital camera to get the best possible images, so that everyone will be able to get some stunning shots of these magnificent birds.

Review your Photos on Computer

You will have the opportunity to review and discuss your photos using our computers and learn how some simple adjustments can transform your images.  There will be a second photography session where you can put into practice everything you have learnt during the day.

Equipment

These workshops are suitable for large compact (bridge) and SLR cameras.   If you have a bridge camera, you will be able to get excellent shots of the birds at rest and you will probably capture some shots of a bird in flight.
