The Trams and Stately Home Two-Day Event
Please not that there are no more dates for this workshop in 2009. Our 2010 dates will be announced shortly.
David lives just five minutes away from Crich, and twenty from Chatsworth and has been capturing their varied and ever changing aspects for many years. With the help of his decades of experience in photographing a huge repertoire of subjects, you will have the opportunity to build on your existing skills and photo technique. These workshops are designed for the typical enthusiast photographer, who may have a DSLR, and for whom using the major camera controls will be no mystery. David’s emphasis is not on teaching what you can gain from a textbook (digital workflow, Photoshop manipulation etc) but how to use time on location to best effect. With David’s expert guidance you can achieve the rewarding goal of building on your existing abilities. He will demonstrate how to capture iconic images, and more than merely technically competent snapshots.
Small Groups
There are a limited number of students per workshop, allowing for individual attention from David.
Our Itinerary
Day 1
On the first evening you will meet David and your fellow photographers. Then after a relaxed dinner at the local country pub you will also have the opportunity to view a digital slide show of the locations you will photograph in the next two days
Day 2
The
The following morning, after a briefing talk on the days location just five minutes away, David will accompany you there ready for opening time.
You don’t have to be a tram enthusiast to enjoy capturing images at The National Tramway Museum at Crich, near Matlock Derbyshire. Not forgetting the chance to ride in the ‘stars’ of the event, those beautifully restored trams, of course! You can capture the nostalgia, the patina of time on wood and metal, of these wonderful examples of vintage transport as you clatter along the tracks.
Your viewfinder will be crammed with a continually changing spectacle of people, vehicles and architecture. David will use his decades of experience as a photo-journalist to guide you through how to make the best of this hugely varied location, and build on your existing skill levels to capture more than just a record of the day.
There are also indoor displays of trams and transport memorabilia, set amongst period architecture and woodlands. Other period attractions are the Red Lion Pub, Tea Rooms, souvenir and sweet shop.
Lunch and refreshments can be purchased at the above.
The days photography will finish when the
Chatsworth House and Gardens
Again, a briefing on the days photographic opportunities after breakfast. Then a 20 minute drive across the moors to Chatsworth. Chatsworth House and gardens is one of
With a background of superb architecture, a feast of subjects await you including wonderful gardens with avenues of majestic trees, landscapes, statuary, topiary, and waterfalls. With David’s guidance you can shoot architecture, and a mixture of subjects within a landscape all at one venue. This is a rewarding and colourful mix of subjects and photographic styles.
Chatsworth has a cafe and shops where food and snacks can be purchased, and ample opportunity for a relaxed outdoor lunch.
Guests will leave Chatsworth around 5pm to return to Peartree Farm or go directly home.
Both locations have ample indoor photo opportunities in the event of inclement weather, but David comments : "I have to say that I hardly ever let bad weather put me off getting good shots of an outdoor subject. Chatsworth in particular is simply impressive and varied enough to keep on shooting. Rain on moss-covered rocks and stone in the gardens can be really evocative, as are many areas of the gardens. The water features such as fountains and pools are equally photogenic. Crich has many indoor displays which should not be ignored even on the sunniest of days, including semi-restored trams and Victoriana.”
