Our traditional Get Off Auto workshop with only 4 students. We will meet in a the Michaelhouse cafe in the centre of Cambridge for the how to part of the session before heading off around Cambridge for the practical part of the session. The small group size ensures every student gets the assistance they require. The session runs from 12.30pm to 3.30pm
Creative Close up and Macro workshop in my studio in Burwell. We will play with bubbles, water drop collisions, oil and water mixture and water drops on various surfaces to see what creative images we can come up with. You will need your imagination and either a dedicated macro lens or a set of extension tubes or a bridge camera with a macro function to get the most out of the session. (I have one set of Canon extension tubes that students are welcome to borrow). Limited to just 5 students.

At Hamerton Zoo we have privileged access to the animals, accompanied by their senior staff, so you really are just inches away from their big cats! Numbers are limited to just 6 students. To ensure Covid compliance the presentation part of this workshop is delivered via Zoom at 7pm on the evening before the practical session. At the practical session we have two photography sessions with special access so that you can take natural-looking wildlife shots all with experineced tutor and wildlife photographer Laura Galbraith on hand to assist with the photogprahy and Ben our keeper for the day to grant us access and encourage the animals into the best positions. Students have been know to return on several occasions to repeat this workshop.

If you have done a Part 1 Get Off Auto or are comfortable with the basics, this workshop teaches you how to photograph moving subjects to freeze or intentionally blur movement, how to deal with tricky lighting situations with the use of metering or fill in flash, how and when to use manual and shutter priority mode, plus lots more to take your photography to the next level. This session takes place in my studio in Burwell and is limited to just 5 students. Start time of 10.30am.

Composition - Get Creative

Using the flowers, fauna and structures of the Botanic Gardens in Cambridge we will look at composition and how to get this right for every image. Suitable for any camera and lens combination but if you have a macro lens or extention tubes then bring these along as this will give you more options when taking images of the flowers. The presentation part of this workshop is delivered via zoom at 7pm on the 30th July followed by the practical part at the Botanic Gardens from 2pm on the 31st. Limited to just 6 students.

Workshop explaining how to create studio type photos of dogs. We will start with the basics (one flash and a reflector) and work up to more technical lighting set ups (2 to 3 lights). To attend you need to have a good working knowledge of your camera as this is a skill level 3 course. The perfect opportunity to take the next step to improve your photography of birds in flight and capturing portraits in natural surroundings. This workshop is split into two sessions the first is a Zoom pressentation at 7pm on the 24th June where I will explain how to take images of the birds both in flight and perched. The second is the practical session at the venue on the 25th which runs from 2pm to 6pm to take advantage of the best evening light for photographing the birds.
